Foreigner Brings Their 40th Anniversary Tour to Ridgefield, WA (PHOTOS)

Friday night at the Sunlight Supply Amphitheater was the place to be to witness a night of great rock and roll by some of the mainstays of the last four decades. Though it was Foreigner’s 40th Anniversary Tour, openers Cheap Trick were also celebrating their 40th anniversary.

The near capacity crowd on this later summer evening were on their feet with anticipation as the curtain dropped and Foreigner, who are comprised of Mick Jones (guitar / keyboards), Thom Gimbel (rhythm guitar / saxophone), Jeff Pilson (bass), Kelly Hansen (vocals), Michael Bluestein (keyboards), Bruce Watson (guitar), and Chris Frazier (drums), opened their set with “Double Vision” before going straight into “Head Games” which had everyone standing, singing and dancing along with the sound that came from the PA System. The band then made their way through some of their most popular singles. “Cold As Ice”, saw Hansen leave the stage and make his way through the audience, high fiving everyone along the way as he made his way back to the opposite if the stage. The band then slowed the pace by playing “Waiting For A Girl Like You” before bringing the tempo back up with “Blue Morning, Blue Day” and “Dirty White Boy”. The band were tight and obviously enjoying their time on stage. The audience were also enjoying every minute of the show.

Hansen introduced each member of the band and left the founding member Jones for last. Jones then took the mic and talked about the 40 year journey that the band has been on, from its humble beginnings and the many changes in the band’s line up and its present state. Jones then led the band into “Starrider” before finishing out their set with the ever popular “Juke Box Hero” which had everyone in the crowd on their feet, signing on the top of their voices. After leaving the stage and the audience beginning for more, the band made their way back to perform “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “Hot Blooded” which finished out the bands set and concluded the night’s performance.

Cheap Trick whose members are Robin Zander (vocals / rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar / keyboards), Tom Petersson (bass) and Daxx Nielsen (drums) tore through a set list filled with many fan favorites, covers and for a direct support act, had a set list that would seem as if the band were headlining. The band opened with “Hello There”, “Big Eyes”, “California Man” and the band also performed songs that they are famously known for such as “I Want You to Want Me”, “The Flame”, “Dream Police” and “Surrender”. Cheap Trick, along with their playful antics, were a great fit for this bill and did a superb job warming up the crowd before the evening’s main event.

The evening’s openers were Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience and the band got the evening started by covering songs exclusively by the legendary band, Led Zeppelin. The early evening crowd were treated to songs such as “Rock and Roll”, “Over the Hills and Far Away”, “Ramble On”, and “Whole Lotta Love”.
