One of the fall’s most anticipated hard rock tours, co-headlined by Shinedown and Godsmack, made its way to the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, WA on Wednesday Oct 10th. Both bands delivered solid seventy five minute sets of pure rock.
Both bands have been touring extensively throughout the year. Shinedown has been touring nonstop since the spring, before their latest release ATTENTION ATTENTON was released on May 4, 2018 and it made its way to the number one spot on the Billboard Top Rock and Top Hard Rock album charts, mostly due to the strength of the singles “Devil”, “The Human Radio” and “Get Up”.
Shinedown, which is made up of Brent Smith (vocals), Zach Myers (guitar), Eric Bass (bass) and Barry Kerch (drums), put on an incredible performance with a strong selection of material as well as a stage show that consisted of large amounts of lights, lasers, and pyrotechnics. Smith, Myers and Bass are very active during their performances, running around all over the front, back, and each side of the stage, as well as making their way up the platform and ramps that draped each side of Kerch’s drum riser. Smith is also a very animated front man, commanding a strong audience participation as well as getting the audience to sing along with many of the band’s well known songs.
The highlight of Shinedown’s set was when Smith and Myers made their way to the platform at the backside of the arena during their rendition of “Simple Man”, originally written and performed my Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Godsmack, which consists of Sully Erna (vocals / guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass), Tony Rombola (guitar) and Shannon Larkin (drums), are touring in the support of When Legends Rise which was released on April 27, 2018 and it made its way into the Billboard 200. The band’s set consisted of material covering the bands catalog that expands over two decades.
Godsmack’s stage show consisted of large LCD light panels, as well as a ton of pryo and loud explosions which made quite a number of people jump or flinch. One of the highlights of Godsmack’ set was the dueling double drum & percussion performance by Larking and Erna. Known as “Batalla de los Tambores”, both Larkin and Erna had separate drum sets and with Rombola and Merrill, they would also include snippets of various classic rock songs throughout the near five minute jam.
Getting the evening started were Asking Alexandria.
