The last time rock band Journey came to Yakima, was in 1973. The band was still in its infancy as they played to a crowd of college students at Yakima Valley Community College. Over 40 years later, Journey made it’s triumphant comeback to the Yakima Valley with a show at the Yakima Sundome

Although the band has gone through some lineup changes, (original lead singer Steve Perry being one of them) the core group still consists of founding members Neal Schon on guitar and Ross Valory on bass. Jonathan Cain who later replaced founding member Greg Rollie on keyboards and Steve Smith who replaced Ansley Dunbar on drums. The band added Arnell Pineda of the cover band The Zoo, replacing Perry as lead singer in later summer of 2007 after Schon and Cain searched YouTube for a replacement.

Journey was announced as one of the latest inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, class of 2017. The band won the popular vote amongst fans who voted.

English progressive rock supergroup ASIA opened for Journey. However due to the recent death of founding member and lead singer John Wetton in January, session producer Billy Sherwood took over vocal duties. Only drummer Carl Palmer and keyboardist Geoff Downs are the only founding members still in the band. Wetton was set to go on tour with the band, but due to his health taking a turn for the worse, it was not meant to be.

The show in Yakima marked the tour kick-off that would last until July when the band will begin its second residency at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Journey also sold out the Spokane Arena the night after.
