If you have only been to the paramount for theatrical productions it is a little strange to see the lower level chair free. The stage is full of the two bands gear and the crowd settled in for the opening act Klangstof from Amsterdam.
Klangstof took the stage with the firs song of their 7-song set right at 8pm. People were still filing in from the street and were welcomed to the show with a full moon rising over the stage. This single stage optic made for amazing photos the fit the melodic feel of their music. Slow beats layer down over the synthesizers and they blend well with a light electric guitar. The lyrics are minimal and lend to the chill feel of the songs.
I mean what would you want for a rad show? Lasers…check, led wall… check, confetti cannons… check, giant balloons… yeah, we have those also. How about famous people? Does Santa count? He was present for his third straight show. My friends welcome to a Flaming Lips show.
Wayne walked on stage to a gentle roar from the crowd that he stoked as the rest of the band took their places on the stage. The lights dimmed and there was an explosion of confetti and large balloons into the masses. As Race for a prize playing.
Inflatable people came out and joined the band on stage for the second song and then the stage went dark.
When the lights came back up Wayne was riding into the crowd wearing inflatable rainbow colored wings on the back of a unicorn that had its own light show going along its flanks.
The large Led wall featured heavily throughout the show with lasers shining through from the back.
About half way through the. Set they performed a tribute to David Bowie, by singing space Oddity. Wayne got into a giant ball and rolled his way into the crowd where he sang much of the song rolling over the crowds. The tribute ended with him telling the crowd that if they play music they should pick a song of Bowles and make it their own as a tribute to an amazing artist.
Lots of love and lots of fun, the Flaming lips did not disappoint with this show as they travel through their third decade together. This is a must for you when they come to your town, you will not be disappointed!
