The Juke Box Heroes Tour Packs the White River Amphitheater

It was a gorgeous evening in the Pacific Northwest and fans of classic rock came out in droves to the White River Amphitheater to check out two of the longest running musical acts.

Headlining the Jukebox Heroes Tour is Foreigner. Originally formed in New York City in 1976, Foreigner has been recording music and touring for over forty years and they have always put on an incredible performance, and this night was no exception. Foreigner consists of original founding member Mick Jones (guitar / keyboards / vocals), Thom Gimbel (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass), Kelly Hansen (lead vocals), Chris Frazer (drums) and Bruce Watson (guitar) and played many fan favorites and hit singles that spanned over their entire catalog.  Each member of the band, especially front man Hansen, are very energetic and charismatic on stage. The band had everyone in attendance on their feet, clapping along and singing along. Opening with “Long, Long Way From Home”, then jumping into “Double Vision” and stream rolling into “Head Games”, the band sounded excellent. Of course Foreigner played many songs that they are famously known for, such classics as “Cold As Ice”, “Waiting for a Girl Like You”, “Dirty White Boy”, and “Urgent”.  

Hansen each member of the band and introduced Jones last. Jones spoke of how he has been incredibly fortunate to continue playing music and touring so many years after putting the band together. The band then slowed the pace down and performed “Starrider” before finishing their sent with “Juke Box Hero”. Though Hansen could be heard singing “Juke Box Hero”, he was nowhere to be found on stage. As the song reached the chorus, the lights were then pointed to the center of the amphitheater where Hansen was on a lift that had him about twenty five feet above the ground. He as then lowered and he made his way through the crowd and back onto the stage.

The band then came out for the encore and performed “I Want to Know What Love Is”. While the band was performing, the Kentwood High School Choir from Covington, WA came onto the stage and provided backing vocals for the chorus. At the conclusion of the song, Hansen introduced the choir to the crowd and made mention that it is important to keep the arts and musical programs alive in public schools.

Finish out the evening and an excellent performance, Foreigner wrapped up the show with the ever popular “Hot Blooded” which has everyone on their feet and singing. Foreigner put on a show that could easily be one of the better performances of the year.

In direct support were Whitesnake. Another band that has been around for the past four decades, Whitesnake put on a solid hard rocking performance that gave the headliners a run for their money. Whitesnake’s current lineup consists of David Coverdale (vocals), Tommy Aldridge (drums), Reb Beach (guitar), Joel Hoekstra (guitar), Michael Devin (bass) and Michele Luppi (keyboards). They played a solid ten song set that was hard rocking from start to finish.

Opening with “Bad Boys”, Whitesnake tore through “Give Me All Your Love”, “Love Ain’t No Stranger” and “Slow An’ Easy”. Of course it wouldn’t be a Whitesnake show without the band performing their more popular selections such as “Is This Love”, “Slide it In”, “Here I Go Again” and finishing out the set with “Still of the Night”.
