Death From Above Packs the Showbox

Canadian duo rockers, Death From Above (aka Death From Above 1979) are currently on tour in support of their latest album, Outrage! Is Now and they made a stop at the Showbox in Seattle.

The streets were empty on this rainy late fall Monday evening. With no lines waiting outside one would think that the venue would be empty or partially full but the venue had a decent sized crowd when the openers, the four all woman band the Beaches, who hail from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They are made up of Jordan Miller (vocals / bass), Kylie Miller (lead guitar), Eliza Enman McDaniel (drums) and Leandra Earl (guitar / keyboard). Adorned in outfits that looked to have come from 70’s television shows, the Beaches and their garage pop rock musing, performed a solid 45 minute set that saw them win over a new set of fans.

DFA, who also hail from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, are comprised of Sebastien Grainger (drums / vocals) and Jesse F Keeler (bass) and they came out and had the crowd jumping and screaming from the first note. With a large back drop at the rear of the stage with the band’s logo, along with lots of fog and flashing lights, the band tore through “Nomad, “Virgins”, “Caught Up” and “Turn it Out” without much pause in between songs. They seemed the hit the crowd with a ton of energy and the crowd responded by loudly singing along with Grainger.

As DFA continued through their 90 minute set, there was not a single person sitting down. Everyone as on their feet, head banging, singing, and fist pumping along. The stage lighting for their performance was mostly side and back lit and complimented the music very well. “Little Girl”, “White Is Red”, “Holy Books” and “Trainwreck 1979” sounded superb live.

DFA, as well as the Beaches, were awesome to see live and both bands you definitely want to catch when they come to your town.
