Dropkick Murphy’s and Rancid Get Rowdy at WAMU Theatre (PHOTOS)

What happens when two of the biggest punk rock groups, from different parts of the coastal United States, get together? You have a massive US tour! Boston’s Dropkick Murphys and Berkley’s Rancid did just that with their From Boston to Berkley tour. The last time both bands came to Seattle was over four years ago. DKM played Sasquatch at The Gorge, while Rancid sold out two shows at Showbox SODO with Transplants. This time, they sold out WAMU. 

The openers featured 7Seconds frontman Kevin Seconds performing an all-acoustic set. There was some slight confusion amongst the fans as Seconds came on stage earlier than expected. Legendary U.K. Ska band The Selecter also performed and dedicated their set to Heather Heyer… Who tragically lost her life during the events that took place in Charleston over the previous weekend. 

Dropkick Murphys came out to a thunderous applause. Lead singer Al Barr interacted with the crowd, while they chanted the regulatory “LET’S GO MURPHYS” during breaks. During the end of their set, the band brought up many fans from the crowd and had them join in on Until Next Time. Dropkick Murphys would later come out during an encore with Rancid performing covers from The Clash, Ramones, and “the man in black” Johnny Cash. 

Rancid would close things out with a set featuring new material off their latest album Trouble Maker. Frontman Tim Armstrong looked unrecognizable as he grew a massive beard, and was missing his trademark newsboy cap. Rancid also played various hits from their entire career. Kevin Bivona of The Interrupters joined the band on keyboards during their performance of “Old Friend.” The band closed out their set with Ruby Soho, leaving the fans happy.
